AquaRevier consortium visits Resilience Expo 2026 in Mönchengladbach

On 10 June 2026, representatives of the AquaRevier consortium visited Resilience Expo 2026 at the Hugo Junkers Hangar in Mönchengladbach. The focus was on professional exchange with exhibitors as well as impulses on climate adaptation, water management and resilient infrastructure for the further project work. AquaRevier is coordinated by FiW e. V. at RWTH Aachen University together with the two RWTH institutes, the Institute of Environmental Engineering (ISA) and the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management (IWW). The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) under the STARK funding guideline and co-financed by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia; the project management agency is BAFA.

On 10 June 2026, representatives of the AquaRevier consortium visited Resilience Expo 2026 at the Hugo Junkers Hangar in Mönchengladbach. The trade exhibition brings together stakeholders from business, science, municipalities and politics and showcases practice-oriented solutions for climate adaptation, resilient infrastructure and sustainable cities.
 
For AquaRevier, the Expo provided a suitable framework for linking current developments in the climate adaptation sector with the project’s key questions. The focus was particularly on topics such as water and sponge-city approaches, heavy rainfall prevention, drought resilience, digital decision-making tools and the implementation of climate-adapted solutions in municipalities, companies and infrastructure.
 
The participants from the consortium used the event to attend programme sessions and specialist presentations, engage with exhibitors and identify potential points of connection for the ongoing case studies. The exchange once again highlighted the importance of linking research, application and transfer in order to effectively advance water management adaptation strategies in the Rhenish mining area.
 
The insights gained will feed into the discussion of practice-oriented measures, methods and transfer pathways for the case studies. In this way, the visit to Resilience Expo supports AquaRevier’s objective of developing scientifically sound and application-oriented solutions for climate-resilient water management in the Rhenish mining area as a region undergoing structural change.

AquaRevier develops strategies for future-oriented, climate-resilient water management in the Rhenish mining area. The project focuses on five case studies – ranging from reservoir and flood management to industrial water reuse, stormwater management and water use strategies in agriculture. The aim is to provide robust decision-making bases and transferable concepts for the water sector.
