Education and professional development make a central pillar of our research and knowledge transfer activities, both nationally and internationally. They complement technical demonstrations and analytical work through capacity building and stakeholder dialogue, while integrating technical, economic, and regulatory dimensions. The objective is to strengthen public administrations, utility companies, and planning institutions so that technical solutions can be operated efficiently and resiliently in the long term.
Our portfolio includes practical oriented trainings, modular teaching materials, guidelines and operational recommendations for action that are adapted to local conditions. We teach both technical skills (e.g., plant operation, operational safety) and management and governance-related skills (e.g., risk and emergency planning, organizational development, financing strategies).
We combine in-person and digital formats in a blended learning approach and we develop simulation-based teaching materials and hands-on exercises to make operational processes and decision-making parameters easier to understand. Workshops, multi-day training courses, train-the-trainer programs, excursions, and university teaching form a diverse range of learning opportunities. Participatory methods and stakeholder-oriented processes ensure user acceptance and promote institutional learning.
Our target groups include employees of utility companies, technical professionals, decision-makers in ministries and administrations, as well as teaching and research staff. Through capacity building and organizational strengthening, we support sustainable operational performance, the implementation of resilient supply and sanitation models, and the adaptation of resource-efficient strategies.
The education and training programs of FiW aims to consolidate expertise and ensure the practical transferability of technical solutions.
