FiW at the Climate Adaption Week

Climate Adaptation Week is taking place for the fifth time from 14th to 20th of September. The FiW is once again taking part in the BMUKN’s nationwide campaign week and is presenting three contributions this year. Climate Adaptation Week has been organised by the Centre for Climate Adaptation (ZKA) since 2022.

During Climate Adaptation Week, the FiW is presenting the findings of various research projects. All presentations will be held in german,  take place online and are available free of charge via the Climate Adaptation Week website.

The Rhine in the Face of Climate Change – The Economic Impact of Low Water Levels
On 14 September from 1.30 pm, the FiW, in collaboration with Prognos AG, will present the key findings of the BMFTR research project R2K-Klim+, which has been investigating the impacts of climate change on low water levels and the economy along the Rhine since 2020. Based on the latest SSP climate scenarios, the economic damage in the Rhine catchment area will be quantified using economic models developed by Prognos AG. Afterwards, the FiW and Prognos AG will be available to answer any questions.

Analysing, evaluating, prioritising – climate services from R2K-Klim+ for local authority practice
On 18 September from 1.00 pm, two so-called climate services – digital tools that analyse existing data and present the results in the form of maps, developed as part of the R2K-Klim+ research project – will be presented. These two climate services comprise an urban structural analysis of heat stress and an integrated assessment methodology for heat, heavy rainfall and river flooding. The assessment methodology combines various data sets and evaluation criteria to identify vulnerable areas at the property, building block or neighbourhood level.

Together. Measurable. Effective. Shaping climate adaptation in a targeted way
On 18 September from 11.00 am, the FiW will present the ERDF-funded IndiKlimA project (Indicator-based climate adaptation monitoring at regional and local level). The IndiKlimA project aims to close existing gaps in the assessment of climate adaptation. The focus is on the impact and response indicators of the DPSIR classification. The presentation of the project will be followed by an interactive session and an opportunity to ask questions.
