The FiW Forum 2025 – many guests, interesting topics, good atmosphere

Once a year, we invite our members, our research advisory board and guests to our forum

The traditional FiW Forum with our members, the Research Advisory Board and many guests took place on 4 December at the oil mill for the first time. Representatives from politics, business and water management from Germany and the Netherlands discussed the topics we had prepared and also used the day for further discussions and exchanges.

In the morning, the FiW Research Advisory Board, chaired by Ulrike Franzke, discussed topics such as carbon management in sewage treatment plants, alternative precipitating agents, data management and resilience in water management. In addition, we continued our exchange with our guests from the Netherlands and neighbouring districts in North Rhine-Westphalia on intensifying cross-border cooperation in regional water management on the way to the NRW water strategy for the future.

In the colloquium after the lunch break, our current research topics were presented in short lectures and lively discussions. Before, during and after the event, there was time for discussions, networking and exchange, and of course refreshments were provided.

Towards evening, everyone went home with homemade cookies from the FiW Christmas bakery, and we at FiW reviewed the day and brought it to a close.

It was another very successful FiW Forum and a truly wonderful and inspiring day. Many thanks to everyone who contributed – whether as part of the FiW team in the preparations, organisation or presentations, or as guests with ideas, contributions to discussions, good conversations and interesting encounters. We are already looking forward to the next forum in December 2026 at our oil mill.
