R2K Project Workshop in Heidelberg: Decision Support System KLAUS Enters the Final Stretch

On 18 and 19 June 2026, the partners of the R2K-Klim+ joint project gathered for their biannual workshop in Heidelberg. The focus was on substantive progress in central project areas and the coordination of next steps within the consortium. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) under the "RegIKlim" funding measure and the "Wasser: N" federal programme.

The first workshop day was dedicated to four thematic modules, each led by the respective partner institution:

  • KLAUS – current development status: geomer presented the current state of the decision support system KLAUS, which is designed to help planners in cities and municipalities make informed climate adaptation decisions.   • Assessment methodology & GIS tool: FiW and gaiac presented progress on the methodological framework for evaluating climate adaptation measures and the associated GIS-based tool.
  • Environmental justice analysis: RISP presented approaches for analysing which population groups and neighbourhoods are particularly affected by climate impacts. The overall aim is to make these vulnerabilities visible and to prioritise adaptation measures in a way that does not reinforce existing social inequalities.
  • Damage potentials: geomer and FiW discussed methods for estimating damage caused by climate events such as heavy rainfall or heat.

The second day covered further topics, including floodplain modelling, knowledge transfer instruments and products, and the economic impacts of low water levels on the Rhine.

The workshop concluded with a joint summary of results and the agreement on next steps. FiW thanks all participants for the productive exchange and looks forward to continued collaboration throughout the remainder of the project.
