Solar-Powered Rainwater Harvesting for Smallholder Farmers in Kenya

SPIS4FNS – Entwicklung und Optimierung solarbetriebener Rainwater-Harvesting-Konzepte zur Stärkung der Ernährungssicherheit in Kenia

In Kenya’s upper Ewaso Ng'iro Basin, irregular rainfall and prolonged dry periods pose serious threats to smallholder farming livelihoods. The SPIS4FNS project develops innovative, solar-powered rainwater harvesting and on-farm irrigation solutions to help farmers reduce dependence on seasonal rainfall and enhance food security. Beyond technical solutions, the project emphasizes capacity building, demonstration sites, and the engagement of local stakeholders. By combining research, field trials, and training, SPIS4FNS creates sustainable and economically viable solutions that increase the resilience of smallholder farms and strengthen regional food and nutrition security over the long term.
