Pollution Surcharge for the City of Freiburg
Update of the fee model for user-based wastewater fee assessment
The urban district of Freiburg im Breisgau is characterised by a high level of activity from industrial and commercial enterprises in various sectors. Over 1,000 active businesses are registered in the catchment area. Commercial and industrial wastewater is treated at the sewage treatment plant „Forchheim“ (660,000 PE), which is operated by the Breisgauer Bucht wastewater association. Since the 1990s, the city of Freiburg has assessed wastewater costs using a calculation model with a polluter surcharge. As part of the project, FiW first reviewed the regulations for the need for adjustment and then updated them.
